How I Became a Magician
My journey into magic began unexpectedly, inspired by my then 7-year-old son, Eric, who asked for a magic set for Christmas. This sparked his involvement with two Washington, DC magic clubs—the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) Ring 50 and the Society of American Magicians (SAM) Assembly 23—which we joined together. For ten years, I followed Eric’s lead before the magic bug truly caught me. While managing my Nationwide Insurance Agency full time, I dedicated weekends to learning and performing magic. After retiring from insurance, I embraced magic more fully, performing extensively at private parties and corporate events.
I have twice earned IBM Ring 50’s Dan Lacey Trophy as DC’s Best Magician and served as president of both IBM Ring 50 and SAM Assembly 23. I am proud to be a member of the exclusive invitation-only FFFF Close-Up Magic Convention, and Eric and I were honored as the cover story for The Linking Ring magazine. Additionally, I have held the role of IBM Territorial Vice President for the Washington, DC area and served on the IBM Executive Board. I also perform monthly at Poe’s Magical Theater in Baltimore, Maryland.
